Photography Update

So, I've been to France and up and down the north east US this snowy winter. Almost always with my 4x5 camera, although I have been taking my 8x10 out for a trip here and there. It has been very productive, even with the weather. Once I figure out how I want to add some of the better results to this site, I will do so.

Printing Update

I've done tons of printing with alternative processes in recent months. One of the most interesting things that I have done is using Alt Photo Products Collodio-Chloride POP paper. It is curly, difficult to work with, and produces an amazing image. Totally worth it, especially when toned using gold toner.



I am also experimenting with more advanced (traditional silver) enlarger printing techniques. I have had some interesting results with masks and such, but this increases the printing complexity dramatically. Of course, if it wasn't worth it, I wouldn't tell you about it.

Alternative Process Prints

All summer I have been very busy printing with the sun. Several sets of Van Dyke and Argryotypes have been made, mostly on Arches Platine, although I am trying some new papers.

Prints and Frames

I just received three prints in 16x20" and one in 24x30" from the digital printer, as well as four 11x14". The large prints are at the framer right now, and should be back next week or so. These are the prints:

4x5 Enlarger

I recently acquired a 4x5 enlarger. Now I can print all of 4x5 Press Camera (and Field Camera) prints easily at home.

This enlarger will also make printing slightly larger prints (11x14") easier, and larger prints (16x20") possible. Unfortunately, I don't have the space to work with 16x20" prints.

Printing

I have been busy making some prints in the past week or so. It has been very fun, but also quite time consuming. As it stands, I have several prints available in 16x20" (color) and 24x30". These were all generated from medium format film and look great.

In addition, I am standing by my decision to keep digital and 35mm limited to 11x14", which still looks amazing. In the past, I have printed small format digital files at 16x20 and I was unhappy with the results. The five smaller format images that I have printed this round look great.

I also have been printing black and white 8x10" prints in the darkroom, and they look fantastic. Silver really is better, sometimes.
